Introduction on the status of the debate on corporate accountability and liability, cases, what is the industry response and what civil society wants. The aftermatch of WSSD (Johanebourg 2002). Why voluntary agreements do not work and why we need an international instrument for corporate accountability and liability to face the challenge of a corporate driven globalization.
We are proposing an international commission on corporate crimes under the United Nations system. The commission would travel around the world and host regional hearings to collect the cases and proposals for both national and international instruments on corporate accountability and liability. The final product would be a bottom-up process to deliver an international regulation that should be implemented at the national level to make corporations more accountable to their actions.
International instrument on corporate accountability and liability that requires national implementation. The process should be bottom-up driven. The alternative will be implemented at the UN level.
