Social situation in Poland 14 years since changes [en] | fr
16 December 2003

14 years after political changes in Poland, the plight of most of the population is dramatic. The promises given to ordinary people about quick enrichment following "shock therapy” have been not fulfilled. The was only a shock, but no therapy. But more and more people are struggling against attacks from the government. More and more workers are trying to save their workplaces in collapsing factories. Workers from such factories have created the All-Polish Protest Committee, that I represent. One of the most spectacular is the situation of Cables Factory "Ozarow" – where I work – and where people have been in protest for many months. We experienced brutality of both owner of factory and his security service and police on the other hand. Despite all attacks and unfulfilled promises, workers from Ozarow are still protesting by occupying factory offices.

Alternative proposals

International unity of workers facing sackings and attacks in the same way in many countries.
