G20 Alter-Forum [en]
16 August 2011

1-4 November 2011, Nice

Dear Friends,

The G20 will take place on 3 and 4 November in Cannes, and preparations are progressing for the Alter-Forum to be held in Nice, from 1st to 4 November.

This Alter-Forum will only be successful if there is a large mobilization across the world to make of it a big event. We therefore call upon all civil society groups, social movements, NGOs and trade unions to take the initiative of organizing one or several events during the Alter-Forum.

The “People First, Not Finance” Alter-Forum will be organized around six themes, symbolized by slogans. We propose you the following themes and slogans, but the slogans in English still need to be discussed with non-French groups so that we can finalize them.

1. Stop austerity, end inequality (austerity, employment, social rights, welfare, debt) 2. The people, not the market (finance regulation and debt) 3. Change the system, not the planet (environnement, development) 4. Don’t gamble with our food (agriculture, food) 5. Indignados, Rebels, Solidarity (democracy, struggle in Mediterranean region, human rights) 6. They’re 20, we’re billions (global governance)

Several activities will be organized by the French G8G20 2011 Coalition :
- A protest on November 1st, followed by a public meeting with people taking the floor, and a concert if we collect enough funding

- A press conference on November 4, at the end of the alter-forum and the G20 Summit. We are exploring the possibility to hold it in Cannes

- Maybe a symbolic event, still to be defined, during the protest or the public meeting.

On November 2nd and 3rd, conferences, debates, round tables, stunts, press conferences can be organized in Nice by national and international groups volunteering to do so. The French Coalition will bring all the registered activities in a unified and consistent programme. If needed, the French coalition will also help get rooms and translation facilities for the events. The cost of those events will however rest on the groups initiating/proposing the activities concerned.

We therefore call upon all groups wishing to organize an event during the Nice alter-forum to fill up the formular on our website.

Do not hesitate to come back to us if you have questions or need more information: contactg8g20@altermob.org.

Friendly greetings,

The French G8G20 2011 Coalition
