G8 protest [en]
11 May 2011

Dear friends,

As you know, the G8 will be held in Deauville on May 26th and May 27th. On this, occasion, the "collective G8G20", which gathers NGOs, trade unions, associations of international solidarity and to fight against exclusion and poverty, organizes two days of mobilizations on May the 21st and 22nd at Le Havre.

Program

Saturday, May 21st

- 15h: Railway Station of Le Havre: Mass Demonstration in a festive spirit

- 18h-19h: Closing Political Meeting with several public speeches (Japan and Fukushima’s crisis, Tunisia and Arab revolutions, G8 and Africa, small farmers and food sovereignty, social context of Le Havre)

- 20h - Midnight: Free Concert Grand Closing

Sunday, May 22nd

An alternative forum will be held at the University of Le Havre. 8 workshops will be organized representing as many reasons to oppose the G8 (Global Democracy How?, Finance at the expense of the peoples?, Bridges - not walls, food sovereignty, Nuclear and energy choices, Freedom, Democracy and Support dictatorships?, Public Services and Public Goods, For a transitional social and ecological).

We are currently refining the program and it is not impossible that there will be two more workshops including one about the "E-G8” (Internet)

If you want to join us, it’s easy.

You can either make your own way to Le Havre or to take one of the buses to be chartered (about 30 euros per person).

If you are a member of an organization part of the collective, you can organize within it in order to reserve a place in the bus, otherwise you can also email me at

If you come from abroad and you have problems with visas, you can also write me an email in order to get a letter of invitation.

Concerning the accommodation, a campsite will be provided and local accommodation will be also provided through our “adopt an alterglobalist for the week end” initiative. Simply send an email to

Hope to see you at Le Havre to join forces and discuss our alternatives against this illegitimate G8

In solidarity,

Ronack Monabay
