Desindustrialization and died zones of neoliberalism from West Europe to Siberia (Specific problems of struggle in the conditions of desindustrialisation) [en]
14 January 2004

The purpose is to discuss the possibilities of opposition to desindustrialization inthe regions of the world witch are concerned by such a problem. In Russia, Siberiasuffers the most from this process: industrial potential is beeing destroyed, natural richesses are beeing exploited by the Moscow economic and political power, industrial plants are being closed.

It raises the question of the efficiency of thetraditionnal means of struggle by trade unions. We invite to think about thepossible new strategies of industrial sufficiency and defense of the employment.

Topics to discuss

- The logics of desindustrialization and closure of plants
- Solidarity between workers’ organizations from the West and the East

Methods of struggle: what’s more effective?

- Activists from the enterprises witch have been the object of a struggle againstclosure (for example "Lu", Cellatex in France, Polish coalition of protest actions).
